History
15 Years of Imbera Evolution
The main challenge in electronics has always been how to incorporate more
functionality in products that are constantly growing smaller in size.
Imbera's focus from the start has been to create novel technologies
enabling the integration of discrete active and passive components inside
an organic substrate structure rather than on top of it. This allows
advanced product miniaturization while reducing production costs.
By the turn of the millennium, Helsinki University of Technology had many
research projects going on to create new electronics production processes.
Based on the innovations, Finnish Elcoteq Network SE and Aspocomp Group
transformed one process into a true industrial process by setting up
Imbera Electronics in 2002.
From the beginning, Imbera's technology research has been based on
utilizing existing materials and processes. This enables robust processes
and a large material and equipment supplier base, which translate into
cost-efficiency for you.
Imbera was one of the first embedding technology developers worldwide with
its second generation process launched in 2002 based on the innovation
already presented in 2000 in Helsinki University of Technology. Work on
third generation technology, offering an improved production process that
enables yet higher yield and interconnection density, as well as reduced
production costs, began in 2004. The first engineering samples to
technology end users were shipped in 2005, and small production volume
shipments began in 2006.
In 2007, as result of a new financing round, three new companies – Index
Ventures, Northzone Ventures and Conor Venture Partners - became the
owners, financing the commercialization of the IMB technology.
From now on
The adoption of new technologies causes changes in the value chain.
Imbera’s operating model enables new opportunities and you can benefit
from Imbera's technological lead, advanced product creation and
manufacturing processes, and premium services by being able to have your
electronics packaging done for you.
Inspired by the development of 3.5 and 4th generation IMB technology, we
are strongly investing in one of our strengths, R&D. Current objectives
include further improving the capabilities of IMB manufacturing
technology, widening potential application areas and simplifying the
subcontracting flow. In R&D, we work in close cooperation with selected
international research institutes, partners, and suppliers of materials,
equipment and processes. This safeguards your opportunity to benefit from
Imbera's technology leadership while pushing product performance further
up and production costs further down.
